Consumers are getting more and more concerned about how businesses use and share their personal data. Firms must build consumers’ trust and gain their future business by posting a consumer-friendly privacy policy and living up to their promises. One way for companies to demonstrate their trustworthiness is to display a privacy seal. This workshop examined selected privacy seal programs, the challenges associated with establishing these programs and the benefits organizations can derive from participation in them.

Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Workshop
This workshop, designed for those who work closely with Privacy Impact Assessment, studied the evolution of the PIA process from the regulators' perspective. The emphasis was on real experience to date in national, state and provincial jurisdictions, where PIA is being used as a tool, and compared and contrasted various approaches to offer insights into strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement. It was a frank exchange of views on what works, what doesn’t, and how to leverage the PIA process for better results.
