A Retrospective on the September 2007 Event

We were very pleased to have hosted the 29^th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Montreal from September 25 to 28, 2007. We had an excellent turnout for the event, with some 650 people from all over the world taking part. Delegates and speakers alike had high praise for the program we delivered under the theme, Privacy Horizons: Terra Incognita. Some of the world's foremost data protection experts came together to boldly chart the challenges ahead and explore ways of protecting and enhancing privacy rights. The events organized by our provincial colleagues and civil society groups were also very well received.

Terra Incognita Conference Summary Paper

As a follow-up to the Terra Incognita conference, our Office commissioned the writing of a summary paper to capture and convey the intellectual contribution of the event. For those of you who attended, we hope it provides food for thought about the work yet to be done to protect the right to privacy in such a challenging and evolving environment. For those who could not join us in September 2007, this paper will provide a background on the themes and the flavour of the resulting discussions.

Terra Incognita Conference Legacy: Program and Materials

We wanted to make the materials for the open sessions of the 2007 Conference available in an easily accessible form as a public resource. We have organized the content of each session with the workbook first (where one was developed) followed by the speakers' presentations. Each speaker's name is linked to his or her biography.
